About

I left a major NHL Franchise during the height of their cup run to join the public service in 2007.

My career since then has been that of a journeyman.

I won't bore you with the details, suffice it to say that I've been both under-utilized and over-extended; I've experienced both atrophy and overtime; and I've seen both the very best and the very worst the public service has to offer.

I started this blog back in May 2008 as a response to then Clerk of Privy Council Kevin Lynch's call to get involved directly in public service renewal.  Everything written in these digital pages is written from the head, the heart, or the hip.

In December 2008 I published a white paper called Scheming Virtuously: A Handbook for Public Servants.  The white paper is a tactical guide for innovation that helps public servants advance change while proactively managing their two most important assets: their reputation and relationships.

A year later, the original inspiration for the handbook, Dr. Gilles Paquet, referenced the white paper and this blog in the forward of his latest book: Scheming Virtuously: The road to collaborative governance.

What I soon discovered was that there was an incredible synergy between public service renewal and social media, and what I've come to learn since then is that social media in government is about learning to adapt to change, not learning to wiki, blog or twitter.

Since February 2008 I have had the pleasure of speaking to audiences from coast to coast, across all levels of government, live or via video conference on organizational management, employee engagement, social media and collaborative technologies.

I have an Undergraduate Degree in Political Science, International Relations and Law from Carleton University and a Master's Degree in Conflict Studies from Saint Paul University.

Below is my Resumé. I built it using Prezi. If you would like a more traditional CV, please feel free to send me a fax number via Morse Code and I will dig out a typewriter.  I suggest full screening the viewer to optimize the presentation.  Cheers.
