Ola, all. Here’s a collection of links worth clicking from last week. Enjoy!
Cuts and new combinations:
- Environment Canada is slimming down 776 positions
- About 8,000 public-sector tech workers are being wrapped into a new $2-billion federal agency Shared Services Canada.
- This rejigging has led to a few wish lists of note
- Which leads us to a very engaging interview with the Chief information Officer of the United States. Vivek Kundra. Sound familiar? “The federal government has accumulated 24,000 websites and more than 10,000 separate IT systems; servers in some agencies are idle 93% of the time. Kundra's assignment has been to improve efficiency while also making the government's staggering quantities of valuable data more available and useful to the public.”
The weekly mish-mash:
- Why it's important to initiate relationships at work
- If you ever think, "I know I saw that on Twitter" now you can find it, courtesy of PostPost
- Change is grief. Even when it comes to social media
- Secret shoppers to rate government services at outlets across Canada
- Can we please say good bye to the practice of tweeting news releases only? Public sector organisations that use twitter must accept that it is a two-way conversation
Students:
Last week, the #w2p community had a networking event for students. On that note, here’re a few interesting student perspectives:
- Nothing gets me more cranky than the suggestion that students should do the photocopying
- It's not just the contractors who’d eat glass to get in, it’s also the co-op students
